Bleeding to death after brutal mugging on the campus of UNLV, Twenty-five year old Alyssa, is rescued by the cold and aloof, vampire, Lysander. Taking pity on her, he shares the gift-and curse-of immortality. She awakens as a vampire and is soon devastated by harsh realities of her new way of life: the loss of her friends, her independence, and her humanity.
As if having her humanity stripped away wasn't enough to make life interesting, Alyssa finds out her Turning, did not go unnoticed by the rest of undead society. Old enemies; an ancient sect of vampire hunters, known as the Acta Sanctorum, as well as a powerful Vampire mistress, each set plans in motion to destroy both Alyssa and Lysander.
Only by accepting her new-found immortality and seizing the night, will Alyssa hope to survive. She and Lysander will have to fight together against two sets of enemies bent on destroying them.
What I thought:
I won this signed book in a contest and boy! Am I glad I entered that contest! I really liked this novel.
Alyssa is the victim of an attack and is turned without consent. And we see her struggle with this, and I have to tell you the struggle is refreshing. Sometimes I think characters are able to get over some things too quickly and move on. There is a lot to move on from and I was glad that we got to see Alyssa mourn the life she is putting behind her. I was worried about the generic girl gets beaten to an inch of her life, boy saves girl by turning her into a vampire storyline, but I did enjoy the story anyway.
Sometimes, the religion aspect gets to me when reading a vampire novel, but in this it didn't bother me in the least. Relics are just relics, and only the church itself is after the vampires.
I can't wait for the next, and look forward to watching for more books from this author.
Hey guys! I'm a big fan of reading and writing. I have been writing my own little reviews on shelfari and decided to try my own blog. I love all kinds of books, mystery, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, young adult, erotica, historical romances and just any romance book.
I own a Kindle and love browsing Amazon for free ebooks as well as getting my favorite authors and series on my portable library system. This has changed the way I read. I have gone to a couple books a month to a couple books a week.
