Music Corner

I don't know about the rest of you, but sometimes I like to listen to music as I read.  I like the background noise to cover up sounds of the house settling (if I'm reading a suspenseful novel, this can really freak me out) and whatever else my imagination can think up.

I was listening to the radio yesterday and they were playing alot of Chris Cornell.  Sound Garden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog and some of his solo material.  Can I just say how much I love this guy?  His voice, from the first time I heard any of his music hooked me.  Now I can't listen to any of his music without putting down what I'm reading (really odd, for me!) without singing along or with some of his music, just closing my eyes and just listening to the beautiful music he makes.  I, personally, think he is a musical genius.  So does my fiance, which, when I mentioned it he responded "I think I love you!"  Touching, yes?

There is few other artists that affect me this way, such as CCR, but Chris Cornell just rocks my world whenever I hear his unique voice serenading me across my speakers.  One of the truly gifted song writers out there, he can create such beautiful stories.  He is able to take something common and say it in an uncommon way that really makes me sit up and listen.

Do you like to listen to music as you read?  What do you listen to?  Or do you read better with complete silence?

Chris Cornell does have a cool voice I must admit.
As for music while reading: It has to be English or German music and not Dutch, as Dutch distracts me when reading (Dutch being my native language).

I hate being distracted when reading, so most times if I can help it, I forgo the radio. I have heard a bit of Japanese, Chinese, Russian music, but I don't know about German. I might have to check that out!

I can't stand silence while I read. It lets my mind wander and I start thinking instead of reading. I prefer listening to soundtracks, or sometimes classical music to the radio because the lyrics also tend to distract me. Lord of the Rings is a great background for a lot of books ;)
