Firespell by Chloe Neill

Released:
Publisher:
Rated: YA

New Girl.
New School.
Old Evil.
From the author of the Chicagoland Vampires novels.
A new series about a boarding school filled with something worse than homework.

Lily's parents have sent her to a fancy boarding school in Chicago filled with the ultra-rich. If that wasn't bad enough, she's hearing and seeing bizarre things on St. Sophie's creepy campus. Her roommate, Scout, keeps her sane, but keeps disappearing at night. When one day Lily finds Scout running from real-life monsters, she learns the hard way that Scout is involved in a splinter group of rebel teens.

They protect Chicago from demons, vamps, and dark magic users. It's too bad Lily doesn't have powers of her own to help. At least, none that she's discovered yet...

What I thought:

I'm a bit on the fence on this one. I loved Neill's other series, so I tried out this one. I liked the characters, a lot. But I'm not so sure I liked the plot. It didn't feel like an adventure for me, like I was expecting something more grant, more evil to go up against. I'm still intrigued with the character plot, though, like what is really going on with Lily's parents, why they chose St. Sophia's and such. I will read the second book and see if it draws me in or not.

You are a generous soul Aimee to give this book 3 stars. I gave it a 2 out of 5. The author's "voice" is very compelling indeed! But the scenes, specially towards the end, so lacks authenticity enough for me to connect. I won't be reading anymore of this series, but I might try this author's adult books. It may not have this silly drama scenes which reads like a badly scripted B-movie like it did in this book.

I liked the book, but yes, it could have been more, still perhaps the next ones will be

Cherry, I loved the Chigagoland Vampire series. I think it has a better plot and I liked the characters more.

Thanks for stopping by Blodeuedd! I'm still going to try out the next and see if I like it. It might be something that I didn't like now but would love later.
