Friday Follow (10)

Today's questions:
Do you judge a book by it's cover?

Yes.  I really wish I didn't though.  Covers draw me into the book and get me interested but sometimes those covers full me and the story is terrible or I just couldn't get into it.  But I have also found books where I didn't care for the cover or thought them too kiddie only to realize that I had found a fantastic story that I loved from the first word.  Such an example is the Mercy Thompson series.  I didn't care for the cover of Moon Called.  It kept popping up on my recommendations from Amazon and I couldn't give it a chance. Until I had nothing left that interest me and I tried it.  Then I wanted to slap myself upside the head for taking so long to read this fantastic series. So while I try not to judge a book by it's cover, I'm afraid it will always have the first impression.

Stopping by via the hops, old follower here. Covers are what draws you in - I don't think I've met anyone that doesn't judge a cover, at least a little. But we all have our stories where we've been burned - a beautiful cover housing a horrible book, or vice versa.
Have a great weekend!

I love the Mercy Thompson series, and I agree it took me a while to read these books for the same reason.

That's too funny! I do that, too, with Amazon recs. Maybe I should pay more attention to the ones I skip.

Thanks for coming by! I have also been fooled by covers in the past, but you never know if you don't try, right?

Yes, I often judge books by their covers, and I'm so glad when my old favorites get much-needed makeovers.

The book above, for example, I would love to read for myself, but probably would have a heart attack if I saw my sixth graders reading!

I completely agree that the cover is the first impression you get of a book.

I had the same experience with the Mercy Thompson series. The covers seemed a little silly but everyone kept saying I had to read it - and they were right!
But I've read quite a few duds that had stunning covers.

I just bought a book with an absolutely GORGEOUS cover and I cannot get into it to save my life!

I'm a Cover Lover but I almost never buy a book unless the synopsis piques my interest! This one did and I was wrong there, too.
Just goes to show that sometimes you can be wrong on both fronts!

Glad it's few and far between! Thing is, everyone seems to be raving about this book!

Maybe I'm just not in the mood for it right now! I'll pick it back up in a few days!

Thanks for stopping by :o] As always, it's great to hear from you!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I totally judge a book by it's cover. I know they say you shouldn't but I am guilty.

I was the same way with the Mercy series. I wasn't fond of the cover, so I didn't read it until a friend told me how awesome it was. Then I kicked myself for not reading it sooner. Of course, after I read the books, I realized how little the cover art actually reflects Mercy. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for stopping by my blog, I'm following you now too! Yeah, I hate when you pick up a book because the cover is gorgeous and you just end up hating the book. I just can't help it though when I am perusing the books at Barnes and Noble and see a pretty cover; it just sucks me in! I think we can all agree that even the most beautiful book cover can't sell a book if the writing's not there. Book cover art may, at best, help steer me in the book's direction (especially if I'm in a book store) but it's not going to hypnotize me into buying it right then and there.

I expound on all the marketing qualities of a good book. Just follow me back to my book blog - http://www.howardsherman.net

The Mercy Thompson book covers are sooo misleading. They don't represent Mercy at all. She's more girl next door than biker chick. And, yes, she has tattoos, but she's not in the habit of showing cleavage. By and large, Urban Fantasy book covers favor big-chested women with tattoos and weaponry. At least it makes them easily identifiable.
