Event: Vampire Bites Blog Tour with Giveaway!

Yes, this is my second Katie Salidas tour this month. But I'm excited to have her back! I stalk her, erm, I mean follow her and her book news! Today she is promoting her book, Vampire Bites, a collection of her short stories. And, if you haven't done so, be sure to check out her vampire series. The first book is  Carpe Noctem (Immortalis #1)  and it's definitely worth a read!! And be sure to visit Leilani Loves Books http://www.leilanilovesbooks.com/ tomorrow!

Here is a little about the stories inside of Vampire Bites:
House of Immortal Pleasures:
Blindfolded, and kidnapped by her friends, Daphne is whisked away to the famed, House of Immortal Pleasures, a Vampire-run Brothel in Pahrump, Nevada.

Sometimes the only way to mend a broken heart is to get back in the saddle. At least that is how Daphne's friends see it. And since Daphne isn't showing any signs of letting that happen, they take it into their own hands. With a few shots of liquid courage, a pat on the ass, and a donated gold card, Daphne is unwillingly sent to meet her creature of the night, Connor.

Karma & Melodies:
Ten years after she was stolen from the mortal world, Kendra runs into the man she had always loved. But she's not longer a human and he's a popular musician on tour with his band. Can they find a way to make love work?

Halloween Fantasies:
Touted as the sexiest party of the year, the annual Halloween Fantasy Ball is the one place a girl can let loose and succumb to her wildest fantasies. Disguised as a sexy vampire huntress, Sasha captures the attention of Dante, a real life creature of the night. And this sexy vampire has a few fantasies to share.

Here's What I thought of Vampire Bites:

I liked these. I had read the first one right when it came out, and it was even better the second time around. I enjoyed the other two as well.

The second story was probably the most suspenseful of the three with the least amount of sex involved. But it was still good. It was full of some pretty heavy vampire cliches but it all worked out in the end.

The third was the slowest for me to get through, honestly. While I liked it, this one is what brought the whole book down a star. It seemed like a bit of a let down after reading the first two. Not by much, but I was expecting something a little more than fantasy play.

Katie is a good writer. I've enjoyed her full length novels and she's really good with a short story. Definitely worth a read.

My Rating:

Katie is letting me post an excerpt of one of her stories! Exciting, right?! So, here is a little morsel from the short story entitled "Karma & Melodies":

Katie Salidas
Chapter excerpt

“You can’t run forever, darlin’. I’ll catch you. And when I do, there’ll be hell to pay.”
Kendra awoke with a start, slamming her head into the top of the sleeping bay.
Marcus chuckled. “You okay in there?”
“I don’t know,” Kendra moaned, rubbing the sore spot on her forehead, struggling to remember where she was. She shook off the last remnants of sleep and opened her eyes, feeling as if she had only closed them moments before. Was it a dream, or had she really heard Hector again? Was he getting close, or was it just subconscious worry invading her dreams? She pulled back the curtain, relieved to see Marcus’s smiling face. “Sorry…What time is it?”
“It’s time to get up, sleepyhead. Support band’s already on stage.”
Kendra blinked a few times, shocked that she had slept so long. She rolled out of the sleeping bay. “I thought you were going to come back early and wake me?”
“Troy found a swap meet, and we lost track of time shopping.” He pointed toward the living area. Kendra spotted a few plastic bags and snickered, seeing the hilt of a large-ish looking sword sheathed in an old leather scabbard. Guess he took my joke about buying a sword seriously.
“Here.” Marcus handed her a badge hanging from a plastic lanyard. “You’re gonna need this if you want to be back stage with us. We’ll have to get you a wristband too,” he said, extending his other arm to show the neon orange band around his wrist.
“Crap, I’m sorry I overslept. It felt like I had just closed my eyes.”
“You sounded like you were having a nightmare. You sure you’re okay?”
She rubbed the sore spot on her forehead, remembering the sound of Hectors voice. It had been so clear, so close, but was it just a dream? “I’m okay now. I’m just sorry we didn’t get time to work out the rest of those lyrics.”
“It’s okay. We wouldn’t have had much time to do it.” He smiled. “We were pretty busy most of the afternoon. Gary was cracking the whip. He must have rolled out on the wrong side of the bed.”
“You forgot his milk.” She gave him a stern look.
“Whoops.” He smiled sheepishly.
“Yep, so I think you deserved it. Besides, a little hard work never killed anyone.” She laughed and playfully punched him in the shoulder. “How are you feeling? Are you up to performing?”
“I’m all right. A little tired, though. I’ve been downing energy drinks all day. I was hoping you might want to offer me some—”
The smile faded from her lips. She looked away to hide her disappointment. She’d turned him into an addict already. “I’m not so sure that’s the best idea.”
“It would help me perform my best tonight.” He reached out and grabbed her hand. “Please?”
Kendra sighed and looked up, meeting Marcus’s hazel eyes. “I can’t keep giving you blood. I don’t want to turn you.”
“I’m not asking for a lot. How much blood would turn me?”
“It’s not like that. You don’t just drink a certain amount and poof! You’re a vampire. I would have to drain you and replenish you three times to turn you. The problem is, sharing my blood just makes it that much more tempting to do… for both of us.”
“I’m not asking you to turn me. I said I wouldn’t. I’m just asking for another taste. It’s like … a—”
“ ‘Drug’ is the word you’re looking for.” She sighed. “It’s like getting a fix.”
“Okay, I’ll admit that, it is like a drug, but please, just one more taste. I want to do my best out there. That’s the reason you’re with us now, right?”
“Oh. Is that all you want me here for?” Anger flushed through her. She yanked her hand from Marcus’s grip and turned, heading for the door. “If that’s the only reason I’m here, I’ll leave.”
“No. That’s not what I meant at all. I don’t know what I’m saying.” Marcus spewed the words out as he chased after her. “My head’s all messed up. You know what this is like. Please, Kendra.”
She was hurt by his words, but deep down she understood the desperation: the need, the life or death feeling that accompanied the addiction. She turned to face Marcus, instantly finding his sad, puppy-dog eyes. This was the reason she’d stayed with the band. She had promised to keep him happy and singing until the end of the tour. Beyond that, there was a small piece of her that wanted to give him what he craved. She remembered how she had pleaded with Hector. She had begged on hands and knees for another taste, and he’d enjoyed every moment of it. Kendra, however, couldn’t stand the suffering. She shared Marcus’s pain as if it was her own, aching with need and desperation.
“Fine, but please don’t ask me again.” Using her nail, she sliced her wrist. Blood pooled to the surface, dark and rich, a tempting cherry color.
Marcus’s eyes widened. He licked his lips in anticipation.
She held her wrist in offering to him and he accepted with no hesitation, latching onto the open wound.
Kendra felt Marcus’s withdrawal-related anxiety diminish as he swallowed.
Hunger struck Kendra hard. Blood loss was a dangerous temptation when she knew a fresh source was within arm’s reach, and she wanted his blood as much as he had wanted hers.
“That’s enough.” She pulled her wrist from his grasp, fighting back the voice in her mind telling her, It would be so easy to take him. Drain him and replenish his blood for a second time. She shook her head, trying to push away the thoughts and focus on how Marcus was doing.
He stood motionless, leaning against the wall for support. His muscles tensed as a visible shiver rolled down his body and a wave of gooseflesh pimpled his skin. Marcus let out a loud, pleasurable, “Ah.” Then slowly, he looked up. A crooked, sated smile stretched his lips.
“Feel better now?” Kendra didn’t need to hear the answer, she felt it.
“Much,” he sighed. “I’m sorry for what I said. I didn’t mean to make you think that was all I wanted. I just couldn’t think straight.”
Kendra silenced him with the touch of her finger on his lips. “I know. I was being overly sensitive. I’ve been in your shoes. I understand how hard it is.”
“I do want you, Kendra.”
Hearing him say her name like that heated her blood. She replaced her finger with a soft kiss. Marcus was ready without need of warning. He wrapped Kendra in his arms and pulled her in close, deepening the kiss as his hands inched down her back. She moaned into his mouth as he squeezed and kneaded her ass.
She broke from his lips, kissing a trail down his neck, finding the tender thumping pulse there. It called to her, begged her for a taste. Marcus thrust against her and Kendra felt the hardness of his erection. He was ready for more. She was ready for more. Too much temptation. She needed blood. Fast. Before she did something else she might regret.
She pushed back, out of Marcus’s grip. “We need to get out of here.” She barely recognized her own voice, it was so deep and husky with need.
A worried look replaced Marcus’s goofy smile. “What’s wrong?”
“We could be a few minutes late.” Marcus gave her a sly smile.
“Bad idea.” Kendra desperately wished she could give in to the temptation.
His face became serious. “You sure you’re okay to go to the concert? You’re not going to hurt anyone, are you?”
“Yes, I’m fine. You’re the temptation. We have to stop this. I can’t let myself taste your blood again. It would be too much to handle right now. I don’t think I could stop myself.”
“Well, then, let’s get you to the gig. We’ll explore temptation later.”
“Let’s not focus on that right now. You have a concert, and you had better be on your game.” She gave him a playful wink, hoping to keep him off the subject of bloodlust and temptation. It was best he enjoy the high he felt and take that new-found power and virility and turn it into a great performance.
