Review: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Released: May 26, 2011
Publisher: Jamie McGuire, LLC
Rated: YA
Buy: Amazon | Book Depository
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand. Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’ apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

What I thought

I feel conflicted with this one. I wasn't so sure about this one. I feel like I'm left in the middle of the road. Liking it but not liking it at the same time. I had wanted to like the romance part but that is where my conflicted feelings lie. Travis seemed so out of control through this and it actually had me worried for Abby. I wasn't sure where the line was when things would go from bad to worse.

Travis was good at the beginning. Player, ladies man, brawler. But once the romance started, red flags were all over the place. He doesn't stay completely out of control, but I did side with America though. I had hoped that Abby would have stayed away. For her own good. Travis just really set me on watch and I wasn't sure I was really able to get behind the couple when he seemed to react so badly to different things. I don't know guys. I think it just wasn't for me.

So, I read this book thinking the entire time that I was insane but I just couldn't stop! I found it to be Twilight-like book crack.

Ah shame you didn't enjoy it very much. I have this on my reader I was wondering if it was any good. I might still give it a try though.

I have quite a few friends who loved it Giselle! It just didn't work for me. But its rare for me to not like a YA romance book.

I thought this was erotica, this is YA? It is being claimed to be similar to Fifty Shades of Grey which is so not YA.

Aimee said...

Nope, not erotica. You know they have sex, but you don't get the details. I'm not sure if I agree with the YA label, but it was in a list for YA books on GoodReads.
