Review: Grave Witch by Kalayna Price

Released: October 5, 2010
Publisher: Roc
Rated: Adult
Series: Alex Craft, Book 1
Buy: Amazon
Not even death can save her now. As a grave witch, Alex Craft can speak to the dead-she's even on good terms with Death himself. As a consultant for the police, she's seen a lot of dark magic, but nothing has prepared her for her latest case. When she's raising a "shade" involved in a high profile murder, it attacks her, and then someone makes an attempt on her life. Someone really doesn't want her to know what the dead have to say, and she'll have to work with mysterious homicide detective Falin Andrews to figure out why...

What I thought

I have to say, I really liked the storyline of this one. I read a few reviews before finally buying this one and all the talk of how hot Death was I was excited for a romance. It wasn't really a romance, but more of a paranormal murder mystery. And I'm not disappointed in the least over that. I loved the mystery, I loved the detective work and I loved watching Alex deal with the lead detective on the case.

I liked Alex. I did. While there are romantic elements (very few, but they exsist), I really liked watching her deal with the world around her. She's strong. She has her vulnerable moments that come with her abilities but she doesn't let it hold her back. She strives to do what is right and to find the truth. She's not a whiner, which is a huge bonus for me.

Pretty promising start to a series. I do plan on getting the next book and seeing where the story takes me.

What about Death? He's my favorite character. Forget Falin!

I thought he'd have a bigger part in the book. I'm hoping the next he is in more. I didn't get attached to him in this one.

I really enjoyed this one. Death definitely needs more appearances. I love romance even in my urban fantasies but this book had enough going on that it didn't really bother me.

Oh, I enjoyed this too! The second book not so much, but it was still good. (Also, I'm kind of Team Death, if that makes sense. Whoa. I've never been Team Anything in my life, haha)

This book sounds great! I wonder if I have it on my shelf because that cover is so familiar. Might just be because I've seen it around the blogosphere. I'll have to look though cause I'm really wanting to read it now!
